The Uffizi (Gallerie degli Uffizi)
One of the world’s best art galleries, The Uffizi has an enormous collection of Renaissance paintings with works from Giotto, Botticelli, da Vinci, Michelangelo and Caravaggio. The building was designed to be used as the offices of the Medici. The top floor has displayed artistic treasures since 1581. Ancient Greek and Roman sculptures line the corridors and exhibits chronicle the history of Florentine art. Make sure you allot enough time, because there’s plenty to see. Some may find it easier to see the museum on two separate days. Try breaking up your visits by exploring the Florentine Renaissance in rooms one to 15 on day one and paintings from the High Renaissance and later Italian and European works on day two. The museum’s popularity can draw huge crowds, so try to reserve tickets ahead of time and escape some of the long lines.
