More useful links for Berlin
Once trapped in no man’s land behind the Berlin Wall, the impressive Brandenburg Gate is now renovated, accessible to the public and closed to traffic. Pariser Platz, the square linking the Brandenburg Gate to Unter den Linden Boulevard, was recently reconstructed as well. Many of the surrounding buildings were built after the fall of the Berlin Wall, since the originals were destroyed in World War II. The Brandenburg Gate, which was built between 1788 and 1791, is the only city gate left in Berlin. Its structure is similar to that of Athens’ famous Acropolis. A statue of the Goddess of Victory sits atop the gate, pointing east towards the city’s center.
