Belize uses the Belize dollar, which is fixed against US dollar at two-to-one. US dollars are widely accepted. Make sure you know if prices are listed in Belize dollars or US dollars.
Belize’s international country code is 501. To call out from Belize, dial 00 followed by the appropriate country code. Urban areas and tourist centers have plenty of internet cafés.
Hotel and restaurant bills usually have a 10 percent service charge already attached. If it doesn’t, it’s up to you whether or not to tip. Taxi drivers don’t expect tips.
Watch out for muggings in Belize City. Otherwise, most trips to Belize are trouble-free.
You don’t need any vaccinations to enter Belize, but you are recommended to get immunizations against typhoid and hepatitis A. If you’re coming from a country infected with yellow fever, you’ll need to show a vaccination certificate. Insect repellant is strongly suggested, since dengue fever and malaria are around. Most areas of the country have potable, but drink boiled or bottled water if you have concerns.
The electrical current is 110/220 volts AC, 60 Hz and uses plugs with flat blades and a round grounding pin.
