Airport Overview

Norwich International Airport (NWI) is 3.2 miles (5.3km) north of the center of historic Norwich, the regional capital, and the most complete medieval city in England.

A comparatively small and compact university town, Norwich retains much of its medieval charm and its city center is easily navigable on foot via a network of footpaths. The area is also famous for the network of beautiful, scenic rivers and some of the country’s best gardens and parks.

Flights to Norwich International Airport arrive from several UK destinations such as Manchester, Exeter, Aberdeen and Edinburgh, and go to and from popular European hubs and vacation destinations such as Corfu, Amsterdam, Palma de Mallorca, Mahon, Dalaman, Ibiza, Alicante and Tenerife. The airport is small with minimal facilities, but as long as you’re just passing through, you’ll have few complaints.

Terminal Transfer

This is a small airport with just one terminal, and all areas are easily accessible on foot.

Getting into Town

Train: There is no station at the airport and only one large station in Norwich. There are two main routes – south to London (about two hours away) and west toward Peterborough. The station is a 10-minute walk from the city center, which you can get to via bus or taxi from the airport. A taxi ride from the airport to the train station should take about 20 minutes.

Taxi: Taxis leave from just outside the terminal building. It’ll cost about £7 to get to the city center.

Bus: The First Eastern Counties Bus No. 27 runs every 15 minutes from Hellesdon, within walking distance of the terminal, to the city center and costs about £1.70. You can buy tickets from the driver and change should be available. There’s also a park-and-ride bus that goes from the designated area (a two-minute walk from the terminal) to the city center every 10 minutes from Monday at Saturday.

Car Parking

There are long- and short-term parking options available, with discounts if you pre-book your space online. The short-term car park is directly in front of the terminal building, and is free for the first 10 minutes, after which it costs £1 for 30 minutes and £3 for every additional hour up to a daily maximum of £20, or £20 for each additional day. The long-term car park is a short walk from the terminal building and costs £25 for a single day, £28 for two days, £30 for three days and about £5 for each additional day.

Information Desks

There is an information desk in the center of the terminal, opposite the check-in counters.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: ATMs, currency exchange and public telephones.

Luggage: If you’ve lost luggage or possessions within the terminal, contact the information desk, otherwise deal directly with your airline.

Conference and business: The Multiyork Executive Lounge has Internet, fax, telephone and photocopying facilities, as well as complimentary newspapers, snack and drinks and television, although it has no conferencing facilities. It costs £16 for up to three hours.

Other facilities: There are first-aid rooms in the main lobby and in the departure area, and free wheelchairs.

Wi-Fi: There is Wi-Fi coverage throughout the terminal, although it’s not free.

Shopping: There’s not a huge amount of shopping to be had at Norwich Airport. The duty-free shop stocks the usual range of sunglasses, alcohol, tobacco, perfumes and cosmetics. The Skylines store stocks books, magazines, snacks and drinks.

Food and drink: With just two eateries to choose from, there’s not much to tempt the hungry traveler. The Oasis has branches before and after security, where you can grab a quick sandwich, tuck into a hot curry or relax with a cup of tea and slice of cake. The Yard of Ale in the departures lounge also stocks a range of quick, on-the-go snacks as well as hot and cold sit-down meals.
