The new $787 million terminal at Mexico City International Airport opened yesterday, welcoming flights from Delta Air Lines and Aeromar.

Designed to ease congestion at the airport, Terminal 2 will increase total capacity at the site to 32 million passengers a year.

Also known as Benito Juarez International Airport, the airport’s new terminal was opened by Luis Tellez, the Communications and Transport Minister, reports Dow Jones.

Tellez explained that 43.2 percent of the airport’s traffic will move to the new building before the end of April 2008.

Aeromexico, Aeromexico Connect, Continental Airlines, LAN Airlines SA, and Copa Airlines will all be based at the new building alongside Delta and Aeromar.
