Do not confuse Simon Bolivar International Airport in Venezuela with Ecuador’s Simón Bolívar airport. Both are named after the South American leader. The Venezuela airport, also known as Maiquetia International Airport, has two terminals which look after approximately seven million flyers annually. Getting into Town

Taxi: An official 24-hour taxi service is provided by Corporacin Anfitriones de Venezuela. There is a distinctive yellow desk in the Arrivals areas of both terminals where passengers can pay for the trip in advance; passengers are advised not to use the unofficial taxis. Taxis are available from outside the Arrivals and Departures of both terminals. Bus: UCAM buses run between the airport and Caracas (journey time: approximately 40 minutes); bus stops are conveniently close to the metro stations in Caracas.

Car Parking

The airport provides short- and long-term parking facilities at both terminals. The parking lots are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Information Desks

Information desks are strategically located throughout both terminals, with two desks in the international terminal (tel: +58 212 303 1526/7/8) and one in the domestic terminal (tel: +58 212 303 1403 or 1408).

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: Bureau de change, ATMs, banking and telecommunications services and postal services are available in both terminals. There is an express courier service in the domestic terminal. Facilities to send/receive faxes and internet access are available at the Cantv office on level 3 of the international terminal. Pay phones and IDD telephones can be found in both terminals.

Eating and drinking: Restaurants, fast-food outlets, cafés and bars are located throughout both terminals.

Shopping: There is a variety of shops in both terminals. The duty-free shop is located in the International Terminal.

Luggage: A baggage storage service is available in both terminals. Trolleys are available throughout the airport. Beware of informal porters who tend to overcharge.

Other facilities: Medical and paramedical services are available in both terminals. There is pharmacy and several travel agencies and tour operators in the international terminal.

Airport Hotels

A Hilton hotel is currently under construction and will be located immediately opposite the International Arrivals area. There are two four-star hotels near the airport, Hotel Ole Caribe (tel: +58 (0)212 331 1133) in Macuto, and Hotel Puerto Viejo (tel: +58 (0)212 352 4044) in Catia La Mar. There are many other four- and five-star hotels located in Caracas, including the Caracas Hilton, Embassy Suites, Eurobuilding, Melia Caracas and Tamanaco InterContinental. The Four Seasons Caracas (tel: +58 (0)212 280 1000) offers a car service between the airport and hotel, for which a fee is payable.

Airport Disabled Facilities

The airport is easily accessible to disabled travelers, and elevators and ramps are available where necessary. Passengers requiring wheelchairs should contact their airline in advance. Disabled parking is available in both the short- and long-term parking.

Airport Conference and Business Facilities

There is no full-service business center at the airport. However, facilities to send/receive faxes, photocopying, TTY telephones and Internet access are available at the Cantv office on level 3 of the International Terminal, open daily 8am-8pm. Executive lounges at the airport include the Simon Bolivar Lounge on the second floor of the Domestic Terminal and the Venezuela Lounge in the international terminal. The American Airlines Admiral Club is located on the second floor of the international terminal (after security), while the United-Iberia lounge is also located on the second floor of the international terminal.

Directions

Upon exiting the airport, follow signs to Autopista/Caracas and drive through a toll-booth and two tunnels (Boquern I and Boquern II). Then keep left as you enter a third tunnel (La Planicie) and follow signs to Petare. The tunnel will bring you into Caracas.

Companies represented at the airport are Aco Alquiler, Amigo, Auto 727, Avis, Budget, Hertz, Margarita Rental and Rojas. Car rental desks are located in both terminals.
