Airport Overview

Located approximately 12 miles south of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and 16 miles north of the island’s popular tourist areas in the south, Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) or Las Palmas Airport – locally referred to as “Aeropuerto de Gando” – handles almost 9.5 million passengers per year. It is the Canary Islands’ busiest aerial hub and Spain’s fifth-busiest airport.

With a reasonable selection of shops and places to wine and dine, as well as warm and friendly services and an assortment of facilities, Gran Canaria Airport offers a pleasant experience. Clear days offer majestic views of distant mountains, however, breezier weather brings extreme tailwinds to the island, sometimes affecting flight schedules. In general, though, temperatures at Las Palmas International range from mild to moderate throughout the year, so you needn’t carry much in your hand luggage except for a camera, a cap and pair of shades.

Like all tourist gateways, Las Palmas can get chaotic at times, especially during the peak months of July and August. However, staff do their best to offer assistance in terms of speeding up procedures and going the extra mile to help passengers.

Terminal Transfer

Gran Canaria has one terminal which is split into three zones. Zone A is dedicated to European Union flights, Zone B serves international flights outside the European Union and zone C is for inter-island flights. All gates are in close proximity to each other.

Getting into Town

Taxi: A taxi trip to the city center takes 20-30 minutes. Surcharges may be added to the fare when traveling at night.

Bus: If you wish to take the bus to the city center, the cheapest option is to purchase a return ticket (Tarjeta Ida y Vuelta).

Car Parking

There are 2,000 parking bays for short- and long-term parking. Both are situated in front of the terminal building. The first 30 minutes are free. It can be difficult to find parking on busy days, especially Mondays.

Information Desks

There are three information desks on the first floor of zones A, B and C. Tourism-related information can be acquired from the Gran Canaria Tourist Board station located in the EU Arrivals Hall.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: ATMs, currency exchange and post office.

Luggage: There is a lost-property service on the second floor of zones B and C. All inquiries regarding possessions left on board an aircraft should be directed to your airline. There is no left-luggage office.

Conference and business: The VIP lounge offers business facilities and services such as Internet access, fax and photocopying. It is open to all passengers, but entrance is free to Business-Class passengers of registered companies only. A meeting room is also available for conferences.

Shopping: Retail outlets at Gran Canaria, such as Kueros, Lava, Natura, Relay and Toys and Gifts, offer your typical airport shop-type products. The best stores to purchase your duty-free items such as cigarettes, perfume and alcohol are Air Zone and Canariensis.

Food and drink: Places to eat and drink include the ever-popular Cafe Ritazza, as well as Cafeteria Sabina, Sky Bar, the Gran Canaria Bar, Deli Wrap and Go and Starbucks.

Other facilities: There is a pharmacy, medical center and chapel, as well as children’s play areas (unsupervised).

Wi-Fi: Wi-Fi is available at a cost.
