Airport Overview

Pisa International Airport, or Galileo Galilei Airport, (PSA) is less than a mile (1km) from central Pisa. It’s a great airport to use when traveling to the Tuscany region and it is only 37 miles (60km) from Florence.

Although Pisa International Airport has a wide selection of passenger amenities, it does tend to get a bit crowded, particularly during the peak summer season. Passengers using the airport have loads of seating space in the restaurants and cafes, but the terminal itself is a little small and cramped.

With a number of low-cost airlines, such as Ryanair and easyJet, offering cheap flights to Pisa International Airport, it’s easy to find a ticket to suit your budget. There are also a number of regional carriers offering flights to Galileo Galilei Airport from cities across Europe, including Madrid, London, Rome, Athens and Barcelona. There are even some flights to Pisa International from further afield, such as Moscow, Sharm el-Sheikh and New York.

Pisa International is well serviced by public transport options and it’s a great airport to use as a gateway to the Florence region.

Terminal Transfer

There is only one terminal.

Getting into Town

Train: The railway terminal is connected to the terminal’s check-in hall by a 40m (131 feet) covered walkway. There are direct lines to Pisa Central Station and Florence, daily. Buy tickets at the information office in the arrivals hall. There is also a direct shuttle to Pisa Central Station that costs €1.10 and runs every 30 minutes between 1.03am and 10.20pm during the week and slightly less regularly on Sundays and public holidays.

Taxi: The Pisa Taxi Cooperative operates taxis to and from the airport. Fares into central Pisa range from €5.70 to €8 and there is an added surcharge of €2.30 on Sundays and public holidays. The airport’s taxi stand is in front of the terminal just after the arrivals exit. It generally takes about five to 10 minutes to get from the airport to Pisa Centrale railway station.

Bus: Buses run to destinations across Pisa as well as Firenze, Siena, Lucca and Viareggio. The Compagnia Pisana Transporti (CPT) has a bus going to central Pisa roughly every 10 minutes between 5.20am and 12.01am from Monday to Saturday. On Sundays and public holidays the buses run from 7.25am to 12.01am, but they are slightly less frequent than during the week, with between three and four buses an hour. Bus tickets cost €1.10 and can be bought from the information office in the terminal. The buses arrive at and depart from the bus stop just outside of the arrivals area.

Car Parking

There are more than 2,700 parking bays at Pisa International Airport. Short-term parking is available in P3 and P8. There is also a multi-story car park (P2) and two long-term parking lots (P1 and P4), but P4 is a seasonal car park. P1, P2, P3 and P8 are all alongside the terminal, while P5 is just a short distance away and P4 is connected to the airport via a shuttle bus. P3, just outside the departures hall, is free for the first 15 minutes, €2 for the first hour, €5 for two hours and €3 per hour thereafter, up to a maximum of €30 per day. P8 is on the arrivals side of the terminal and tariffs are the same as those in P3. The multi-level car park, P2, is next to the railway terminal and is best for medium-term parking. Tariffs start at €2 for the first hour, €5 for two hours, and €1 per hour thereafter up to a daily rate of €22 for the first 24 hours, the daily rate decreases slightly thereafter. Long-stay rates in P1, which is 200m (650 feet) from the terminal, start at €2 for the first hour, €5 for the second, €1 per hour thereafter up to €22 for the first day and €15 for the next two days and €10 per day after that. Airport parking lot P4 is seasonal and only open during summer. It costs €6 per day.
