Airport Overview

Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) started off as an airstrip on the beach, as the sand provided the perfect landing surface for light aircraft. Today, the airport has expanded enough to be moved off the sand, and its three paved runways and two terminal buildings are situated three miles (5km) southwest of central Daytona Beach.

With two larger airports (Jacksonville International Airport and Orlando International Airport) situated in Florida and relatively close to Daytona Beach (65 miles to Orlando and 110 miles to Jacksonville), most passengers using Daytona Beach International Airport do so because it is conveniently situated in central Florida. Using a smaller airport is a great way to avoid the traffic congestion found at larger airports, and the terminals and parking areas are all nestled close together.

Most flights to Daytona Beach International Airport come from either Atlanta or Charlotte. US Airways, AirGate Aviation and Delta Air Lines are the three main carriers offering Daytona Beach flights.

Although small, Daytona Beach International Airport has all the facilities you would expect from an airport serving holidaymakers arriving and departing from the popular beaches of Florida. It is the perfect gateway to central Florida and all the treasures the beaches have to offer.

Terminal Transfer

Although there are two terminals, they can almost be considered one terminal because they are situated so close together. Passengers needing to transfer from one terminal to the other don’t need to worry about transfer times. A shuttle service between the terminals is available, and can be useful for travelers with lots of baggage.

Getting into Town

Taxis: Passengers arriving at Daytona Beach International Airport can catch a taxi from outside the arrivals hall. Taxi operators available at the airport include Southern Comfort, Yellow Cab, Aristocrat Limo, It’s My Pleasure and All American Taxi and Shuttle. Cab fares start at $2.20 for the first mile and $2 per mile thereafter. Additional charges are added for extra people, extra luggage or night-time rates.

Bus: Many hotels in and around Daytona Beach offer free airport pick-up services. There are also other shuttle buses serving the airport: Daytona Shuttle (tel: (386) 255 2294), Daytona Orlando Transit Service (tel: (386) 257 5411) and Transportation Shuttle (tel: (386) 238 1111). Public buses to and from the airport, operated by Votran, run every half hour. Bus #10 is the one to look out for, with fares starting at $1.25.

Car Parking

Parking rates at Daytona Beach International Airport are cheap for an airport. Short-term parkers get the first 15 minutes free, which is perfect for quick pick-ups and drop-offs. Parking for up to 30 minutes is $1, and an extra $1 is charged for each additional 30 minutes, up to a daily maximum of $13. Long-stay parking starts at $1 for the first 30 minutes and a further $1 for each additional 30 minutes up, to a daily maximum of $10. Weekly parking rates at Daytona Beach International Airport are $60. Both the short- and long-stay parking lots are located adjacent to the main (domestic) terminal building. A free shuttle service operates between the parking lots and the terminal.

Information Desks

The domestic terminal has a number of information desks in both the arrivals and departures sections.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: The airport has a post office, a bank and ATMs.

Luggage: The airport ambassadors that staff the information desks in the domestic terminal are incredibly helpful when it comes to items lost and found within the terminal building. Passengers who have lost their luggage en route must make enquiries with the individual airline involved.

Conference and business: A conference room and meeting facilities, particularly the Volusia Room, are available at the airport. Internet access is provided in these airport facilities, and businesses wishing to host a function at the airport can order catering services as well. The conference facility has all the necessary gadgets for presentations, including a sound system, projector and video facilities.

Shopping: Although Daytona Beach International Airport does handle some international flights, it is mainly a regional airport. So, unfortunately, there is no duty-free shop at the airport, but there are a number of other shops, such as a gift shop and a newsagent selling magazines, newspapers and books.

Food and drink: The airport has a couple of restaurants and a snack bar. Most passengers don’t spend much time at the airport, and so the dining options are slightly limited. The two restaurants located after security are MSE and Olive Garden. There is also a bar called Cancun Lagoon, which serves up some bar snacks and offers passengers a last drink before jetting off home or to another destination.

Other facilities: Along with first aid facilities, Daytona Beach International Airport also has great facilities for passengers with special needs.

Wi-Fi: Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout the terminals, and there are also dial-up and broadband workstations situated near the snack bar at the airport.
