Airport Overview

Ohio’s largest airport – and the gateway to the Midwest for international visitors – Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) sees about 9 million passengers annually. The airport is a major hub for low-cost carrier ExpressJet Airlines, offering connections to many North American destinations.

Flights to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport are mainly intercontinental, with Chicago and Houston being the most popular destinations although there are also regular flights to Canada (Toronto) and Mexico (Cancun).

The airport is currently in the process of upgrading its facilities, amenities, and overall ‘passenger experience’, though what it can currently boast about is one of the easiest out-of-airport transport systems in the world.

Terminal Transfer

Not applicable – Cleveland Hopkins International Airport has only one terminal building.

Getting into Town

Airport taxis: Three cab companies comprise Cleveland Hopkins International Airport’s official taxi service. All 75 (white) vehicles operate with GPS technology, in-cab cameras, and a pre-set fee structure, based on mileage. You can find the taxis at the Taxi Gates at the south end of the baggage reclaim area, close to carousel 11. The fee structure is as follows: $12 for 0-6 miles (0-10km); $23 for 6-11 miles (10-18km); $33 for 11-16 miles (18-26km); $44 for 16-21 miles (26-34km); $55 for 21-26 miles (34-42km); $66 for 26-31 miles (42-50km); $76 for 31-36 miles (50-58km); and $87 for 36-40 miles (58-64km).

Train: One of the most efficient, convenient airport transit services in America, the Greater Cleveland Transport Authority’s Red Line provides regular trains to Tower City Station in downtown Cleveland ($2.25 one way, 30 minutes). Trains depart every 15 minutes between 4:32am and 1:14am. To reach the train station at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, follow the signs from the baggage claim levels, down the elevators/escalators to the trains.

Car Parking

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport boasts 24-hour parking facilities for more than 7,000 vehicles. There are three main parking facilities: the Hourly/Daily garage, the Long-Term garage, and the Economy Shuttle parking lot. An enclosed connector bridge with a moving walkway connects the garages, which feature automatic ticket dispensers, with the terminal building. For the Hourly/Daily garage, rates are: $3 for up to 60 minutes, $3 an hour thereafter, with a daily maximum of $14; and for the Long-Term garage, $3 for up to 60 minutes, $3 an hour thereafter, with a daily maximum of $10. The Economy Shuttle parking lot – with space for 640 cars, and a free shuttle-service to the terminal building – costs $2 for up to 60 minutes, $4 for up to 2 hours, and an $8 daily maximum charge thereafter.

Information Desks

There are information booths located in the baggage reclaim and upper ticketing levels; the Cleveland Convention and Visitors Bureau, where you can get some good tourist information and maps, is located in the baggage reclaim level; and Airport Ambassadors are around and on-hand to provide you with information and assistance.
