Airport Overview

Brasilia International Airport, known officially by the rather long-winded name Brasilia-Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport (BSB), serves the capital city of Brasilia in central Brazil. Located seven miles (11km) outside the city, the airport is the main hub for the interior of Brazil and processes more than 14 million passengers each year.

Acting as more of a regional hub than an international destination, flights to Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport come mostly from other Brazilian and South American cities, with a few connections from North America (Atlanta and Miami) and Europe (Lisbon).

Known as one of the best airports in Brazil, the facility has a reputation for cleanliness and efficiency. Bonus offerings like movie theaters and gardens add to the attractions, although you’re unlikely to spend time here on a stopover unless you’re connecting from one of the smaller Brazilian airports. The only major complaints are a lack of transport options into the city.

Like all Brazilian airports however, the facilities are in the midst of an upgrade ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. A new second terminal has already been added.

Terminal Transfer

There is a free shuttle service between terminals.

Getting into Town

Train: There is no direct train to the airport, but if you want to connect to the Metro or the Rodoferroviaria Train Station, you can take bus 102 to the main bus station and then use line 131 to get to the train station.

Bus: The TCB executive line (113) operates to the airport between 6:30am and 11pm and makes the following stops: Airport, Esplanade, Plano Piloto Bus Station, Hoteliers sectors North and South, Airport. The fare is BRL 8 (£3) and the bus runs twice per hour. Bus lines 11, 31 and 102 all stop at the airport

Car Parking

There is plenty of parking available at the airport, with covered and non-covered options. Charges start at BRL 5 (almost £2) for the first hour, BRL 3 (£1 or so) for the second, BRL 2 (£0.75) for the third hour, and BRL 1 (about £0.40) per hour after that. There’s a daily rate of BRL 31 (£12) for long-term parking. Reserved spaces for disabled people are available and payments can be made with a credit card.

Information Desks

There is an information desk in the departures hall.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: The airport has banks, ATMs, and currency exchange facilities, as well as public phones and a post office.

Luggage: There is a lost and found for items misplaced in the airport. Lost-luggage queries are handled by individual airlines.

Conference and business: There are no dedicated conference facilities at the airport, but the VIP lounge provides some services and the post office has a fax machine for business use.

Other facilities: The airport boasts a hairdresser, movie theaters, gardens, first aid station, travel agent, and handicapped facilities.

Wi-Fi: There is no Wi-Fi access in the airport.

Shopping: There are a number of things to buy at Brasilia Airport, including fashion, chocolates, jewelry, souvenirs, books, art, CDs and DVDs, sporting equipment and sunglasses. If you have the time to spare don’t rush past security, as most of the best shops are in the public area.

Food and drink: There are around a dozen restaurants and cafes in the airport, mostly serving Brazilian food or basic pastries and sandwiches. Most of the options are in the pre-security area, however. There are no dining options in the arrivals area.
