Ticket prices for travel from Boston Logan International Airport have risen by 27.5 percent this year, compared with a national average increase of 13.8 percent, according to figures analyzed by Farecast Live Search exclusively for The Boston Globe.

The newspaper says increases in airfares are higher in Boston because of the large number of short flights.

John Rauser, Data Mining Engineer at Farecast, told the newspaper that fares “that are up the most look to be short-haul markets, like Boston to Pittsburgh, Boston to Philadelphia, Boston to Columbus”.

He said that almost half of the flights to Boston’s most popular destinations are within a 1,000-mile radius, and since these short-haul flights charge relatively inexpensive fares, price increases look larger.

“A small dollar increase – but a relatively larger percentage increase – is palatable to consumers, and so it is more likely to stick,” he said.
