Austin-Bergstrom is the first U.S. conversion of an Air Force Base to commercial airport since the end of the Cold War. More than seven million passengers used the airport in 2007. Each day more than 300 commercial flights serve 45 nonstop destinations. Taxi: Super Shuttle (tel: 512 258 3826) operates a taxi minibus service from the airport and has a counter on the baggage reclaim level of the airport. Taxi companies include American Yellow Checker Cab (tel: 512 452 9999), Austin Cab (tel: 512 478 2222) and Roy’s Taxi (tel: 512 482 0000).
Bus: Buses nos.100 and 350 serve the airport and are operated by Capital Metro (tel: 512 474 1200).

There is space for more than 10,000 cars at the airport: in a covered short-term parking lot next to the Barbara Jordan Passenger Terminal, and in surface parking (parking lot A) and long-term parking lots (parking lots B-G). Shuttle buses operate to/from the terminal 24 hours a day to all parking lots.

Eating and drinking: There are numerous restaurants, snack bars, delis, ice-cream parlours and bars.
Shopping: The Market Place, inside the terminal building, houses most of the shops and restaurants.

Hilton Austin Airport (tel: 512 385 6767) is located on the airport site, near the Barbara Jordan Passenger Terminal. There are free shuttle buses to/from the terminal. The Holiday Inn Town Lake, the Marriott Austin Capitol, Omni Austin, Ramada Limited Austin and the one-star La Quinta Capitol are located near the airport; all of these except the La Quinta Capitol offer a shuttle service to/from the airport.

Facilities include elevators, disabled toilets, accessible ticket counters and tables, lowered airport directories and Braille. Disabled parking spaces are located either close to lifts or to shuttle bus stops; shuttle buses are suitable for wheelchairs. Wheelchair service is available to the air crafts; passengers should inform their airline of any special assistance, prior to travel. TTD phones are available. Airport staff are trained in American sign language.

Wireless Internet access at the airport is provided by Wayport (Web site: www.wayport.net) and is available throughout all terminals and gates. American Airlines’Admirals Club and Business Center (tel: 800 237 7971) provides members with business facilities, including seating for up to 150 people, fax machine, photocopier, computer and printer, and computer ports for laptops. It also has two conference rooms. Continental Airlines Presidents Club (tel: 512 530 1850) also provides conference and business facilities. There is also a business and technology center (tel: 512 530 7900) equipped to handle business transactions, foreign currency exchange and airline trip insurance. The Hilton Austin Airport (tel: 512 385 6767) offers business and conference facilities, with 18 meeting rooms available, including a ballroom accommodating up to 800 people, and a fully equipped business center.
