Airport Overview

Named after Mexico’s former president, Benito Juarez International Airport, also called Mexico City International Airport (MEX), is situated in the densely populated capital, Mexico City. It is the country’s busiest airport.

In spite of developments, though, Mexico City International is far from being adequate for the huge number of travelers who use it each year. This is due to the fact that it is completely surrounded by buildings, making expansion of the airfield impossible. Long queues and delays are common occurrences, which is why many travelers use Toluca Airport as an alternative.

Fortunately, however, Mexico City International offers much in the way of amenities, including a wide selection of dining and retail establishments, as well as business and conference facilities, most of which are located in Terminal 2. Terminal 1, by contrast, is old and outdated and lacks sufficient signage and lighting.

Terminal Transfer

Comprising two terminal buildings, Terminals 1 and 2 are 1.9 miles apart and separated by runways. The Aerotren monorail transports passengers between each terminal every 11 minutes. You’ll need to show your ticket stub to get a ride.

Getting into Town

Train: The metro station is just across the parking lot. To get to central Mexico City, jump on line 5 (at the airport), change to line 1 at Pantitlan and hop off at Insurgentes.

Taxi: Pre-paid taxi tickets can be purchased at the Transportacion Terrestre booth in baggage reclaim. Do lock your doors when traveling.

Bus: There is no public bus service at the airport, although there are a number of private companies with buses to cities near Mexico City.

Car Parking

The parking area at Mexico City International has capacity for 1,971 cars.

Information Desks

Information desks are located in the Domestic Arrivals lounge A and at the International counters in lounge F.

Various airlines’ executive lounges also offer business facilities.
