Last check-in is 30 minutes before the flight departs on domestic routes, with the exceptions of Atlanta, Denver, Newark, Tampa and Washington D.C-Dulles, which require 45 minutes and Las Vegas, which requires 60 minutes. For international flights, check-in is 60 minutes before scheduled departure. Boarding passes may be obtained at nwa.com, a Northwest Airlines self-service check-in kiosk or any Northwest check-in position.

Carry-on: One item allowed per person, not exceeding 45 linear in (height + length + width) or 40lbs. Personal items, such as laptops, books, purses etc are also allowed.
You can also purchase a seat for anything too fragile or bulky to check
Checked: Two items are allowed, weighing not more than 50lbs with maximum dimensions of 62 linear in.
Excess: Oversized items are charged at $80 each for up to 160 linear inches. Anything over 160in will not be carried. Overweight luggage is charged at an extra $25 for up to 70lbs and $50 for 71 to 100lbs. Items over 100lbs will not be carried.
Fee for excess luggage is $80 for the first excess piece; $105 for the next three; and $180 for anything more than a total of six, including the two free pieces.

Pets can travel accompanied on Northwest flights as checked luggage or carry-on luggage. You need to notify Northwest at least 24 hours before travel if you wish to bring a pet with you. Total number of pets on each airplane is limited. The cost is $80 each way.

Northwest accepts musical instruments that exceed size and/or weight limitations (up to 100lbs) as checked luggage or cabin-seat luggage. Musical instruments are not included in the free luggage allowance and an excess fee of $80 will apply for domestic travel. For international travel, overweight/oversize luggage fees vary by country.
