John Clare
Non-Executive Chairman
John Clare joined the Board in January 2008 as non-executive chairman. He most recently served as Group Chief Executive Officer of Dixons Group from 1994 through his retirement in 2007. John joined DSG as Marketing Director in 1985, was appointed to the board of Dixons plc in 1988, and became Group Managing Director in 1991.
He oversaw international brands, including Currys, PC World, Freeserve, Pixmania, and The Link. John graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a B.Sc. (Hons) in Applied Mathematics. His early career was in sales and marketing with Mars Ltd., including assignments in Switzerland, Denmark and Sweden, after which he moved to Ladbroke Group as Marketing Director, and Ladbroke Racing as Group Business Development Director.
John is a director of Hammersons plc and Dyson James Limited. He is also chairman of Job Centre Plus, is Honorary President of the Incorporated Society of British Advertisers, a member of the development board of the University of Edinburgh, and guest lecturer to their Management School. He was made a CBE in 2004.
